Music track of the day: NWA-Straight Outta Compton

Classified under:,
I haven't been a huge fan of rap until I started dabbling with it during the summer. I think it was the fake-ass wiggers in my small town that put me off of it. Nothing is more stupid than seeing a tall blonde white guy calling his equally white friends nigga'. Mix that up with Bob Dole's insisting that the music was corrupt and the fact that I had a hard core Catholic mother I stayed far, far away. So, it comes 13 years later after their debut that I've discovered NWA.

I really dig Straight Outta Compton. Listening to it is like listening to the audio version of the first ten minutes of Dawn of the Dead or the trailer for a Michael Bay production. There's a rated R action movie feel to it, full of testosterone and swagger. Everything works together on this track. The pass the mic from each member of NWA serves as a flash-cut intro to a summer blockbuster, fueled by some fantastic beats by Dr Dre. It's the best rock never made. Angry and angsty.
